Pure Dress, Walk and Talk

Part 4 in a series on purity

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Colossians 3:23

a virtuous maiden

If you have a pure heart, it will show forth in your conversation, (lifestyle) in the way you dress, walk and talk. Likewise, if your heart is corrupt, corrupted by this world or the deceitfulness of your own heart, it will come out in your actions.

“ Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.”

1 Peter 2:11,12

Do we dress, walk, talk and flirt like the daughters (and wives) of the heathen? It is a war! Modesty is a war! Purity is a war! Do you war with your spirit or against your flesh? Lord help us!

Are you dressing for the approval of man or God? Is your goal to impress others or to be pleasing to God and glorify Him? Be aware of where others’ eyes may be drawn. You want them to look at your face, not other parts of your body, while you are speaking with them.

“As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”

1Peter 1:14-16

Do your clothes say “I am a daughter of the most Holy God” or “I am a daughter of this wicked generation.”?

Men tend to sin by lusting after women, while women tend to sin by lusting to be lusted after. Is the way you dress or walk suggestive or discreet? If we publicly (meaning in front of ANYONE but our husband) expose our bodies, wear clothing, or walk in a way that accentuates our bodies or private areas, are we being discreet?

3 ladies 1910

“As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.”

-Proverbs 11:22

You may be “cute”, but if you are not discreet, your like a big, stinky, filthy, disgusting, pig with a gold ring in your snout! Bend over and pick up a book. What do people behind you see? How about those in front of you?

Modesty is not only about how we dress, it’s also about how we talk and carry ourselves. You can be dressed modestly and still reveal an immodest demeanor.

Have you ever thought about what you look like from behind? Ask your mother or a wise female friend to stand behind you and watch you walk. Does she think you swing your hips or swagger? This is very suggestive and seductive, NOT at all discreet. The exaggerated swing of the hips speaks louder than a long skirt.

“[Swaggering] said ‘Look at me!’ In fact, it distinctly invited, ‘Look at my tail feathers!’” –Raising Maidens of Virtue Pg. 133

When you walk up a flight of stairs, what do those behind you, or at the bottom, see?

And then there is speech!

“Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.”

–Psalm 141:3

Cutting words are like a poisoness dagger. Careless or cruel words, apart from the healing of the Lord, can leave scars forever!

“If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.”

–James 1:26

The unbridled tongue is a VERY serious matter! Impurity of speech reveals a defiled heart.

“Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”

–James 3:5,6

Is your tongue set on fire of hell? Is a tongue that is set on fire of hell pure? OF COURSE NOT! This little member reveals a lot about the state of our hearts in regards to the Lord. What does your tongue reveal?

talkin on the phone

An indiscreet, impure, heart of a woman causes other to want to “run for the hills”! Are you one of those women? Do you always have to talk? Give your opinion? Give “innocent” little suggestions? Etc.?

“A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.”

–Proverbs 27:15

Very pretty woman in white

Ask yourself “Who am I wearing this for and why?” “Why am I walking like I do?” “What does my speech reveal?”

Does your presence in a room turn heads and say “look at me!” or convict and turn hearts in obedience to Christ, bringing honour to your earthly father and husband, while glorifying your Heavenly Father and Husband?!

Do not let your wicked heart deceive you, and deafen your ears to the Spirit’s convicting pricks!

~Pure Motives~

part 3 in a series on Purity

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.” Galatians 6:14

Motive : An inner drive, impulse, etc. that causes one to act; incentive.

What motivates you? The praise of men? The acclamations of others? The thought of a reward? Why do you do what you do; wear what you wear; talk like you talk; walk like you walk; etc.? Examine your heart!

What should motivate us and dictate our actions? The Lord ALONE should direct us! He does this through His inspired Word. Do you have it? Do you read it? Do you heed it? Examine yourself!

Many, many, MANY people are driven by their desire for glory. Glory for their accomplishments, glory for their looks, their money and even their “godliness”. What is incenting you? How does this affect your decision making, and therefore, your conversation (lifestyle)?

Let us examine our deceitful hearts in the mirror of God’s Word:

Read~ Ezekiel 16, John 19, 1 Corinthians 15, Ephesians 2:1-10, Proverbs 31:30

Search the Scriptures! Everywhere you turn will reveal the same truth: We owe our ALL to Him! We elicit no glory of our own. So what should our motives be governed by? Certainly not the flattery of vain men!

We should be driven by our love for Him! We have been given and forgiven SO MUCH! We are promised MORE! We have absolutely nothing of our own, no merit, no beauty, no holiness, NOTHING of our own, and no one else can give us anything, worthy of motivating us, driving us, or glorying in, SAVE our Gracious Lord Jesus Christ!

So, how are YOU showing forth His glory, by your obedience? Or should I ask are you? By the way, this obedience is easy! Oh yes it is! The Lord promised that His yolk was easy and His burden light. That He would give us no trial that we could not bear. Do you trust Him? Are you motivated by your love for Him?

What is motivating you today?

How does/will this affect you?

What will you do about it?

My next post will be a practical examination of our purity (or lack thereof) in the way we dress, walk and talk. But we must first examine our motives behind these things.

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.” Hebrews 12:1-3

~Pure Love~

    • Part 2 in a series on Purity

Do you like love stories? I’d like this post to be about the ultimate love story of all time! How do you love someone? Is your love pure like Christ’s? Test it against the scripture.

“ Thus saith the Lord GOD unto Jerusalem; Thy birth and thy nativity is of the land of Canaan; thy father was an Amorite, and thy mother an Hittite. And as for thy nativity, in the day thou wast born thy navel was not cut, neither wast thou washed in water to supple thee; thou wast not salted at all, nor swaddled at all. None eye pitied thee, to do any of these unto thee, to have compassion upon thee; but thou wast cast out in the open field, to the lothing of thy person, in the day that thou wast born. And when I passed by thee, and saw thee polluted in thine own blood, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live; yea, I said unto thee when thou wast in thy blood, Live. 7 I have caused thee to multiply as the bud of the field, and thou hast increased and waxen great, and thou art come to excellent ornaments: thy breasts are fashioned, and thine hair is grown, whereas thou wast naked and bare. Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine. Then washed I thee with water; yea, I throughly washed away thy blood from thee, and I anointed thee with oil. I clothed thee also with broidered work, and shod thee with badgers’ skin, and I girded thee about with fine linen, and I covered thee with silk. I decked thee also with ornaments, and I put bracelets upon thy hands, and a chain on thy neck. And I put a jewel on thy forehead, and earrings in thine ears, and a beautiful crown upon thine head. Thus wast thou decked with gold and silver; and thy raiment was of fine linen, and silk, and broidered work; thou didst eat fine flour, and honey, and oil: and thou wast exceeding beautiful, and thou didst prosper into a kingdom. And thy renown went forth among the heathen for thy beauty: for it was perfect through my comeliness, which I had put upon thee, saith the Lord GOD. But thou didst trust in thine own beauty, and playedst the harlot because of thy renown, and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was. And of thy garments thou didst take, and deckedst thy high places with divers colours, and playedst the harlot thereupon: the like things shall not come, neither shall it be so. Thou hast also taken thy fair jewels of my gold and of my silver, which I had given thee, and madest to thyself images of men, and didst commit whoredom with them, And tookest thy broidered garments, and coveredst them: and thou hast set mine oil and mine incense before them. My meat also which I gave thee, fine flour, and oil, and honey, wherewith I fed thee, thou hast even set it before them for a sweet savour: and thus it was, saith the Lord GOD. Moreover thou hast taken thy sons and thy daughters, whom thou hast borne unto me, and these hast thou sacrificed unto them to be devoured. Is this of thy whoredoms a small matter, That thou hast slain my children, and delivered them to cause them to pass through the fire for them? And in all thine abominations and thy whoredoms thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, when thou wast naked and bare, and wast polluted in thy blood. And it came to pass after all thy wickedness, (woe, woe unto thee! saith the Lord GOD;) That thou hast also built unto thee an eminent place, and hast made thee an high place in every street. Thou hast built thy high place at every head of the way, and hast made thy beauty to be abhorred, and hast opened thy feet to every one that passed by, and multiplied thy whoredoms. Thou hast also committed fornication with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger. Behold, therefore I have stretched out my hand over thee, and have diminished thine ordinary food, and delivered thee unto the will of them that hate thee, the daughters of the Philistines, which are ashamed of thy lewd way. Thou hast played the whore also with the Assyrians, because thou wast unsatiable; yea, thou hast played the harlot with them, and yet couldest not be satisfied. Thou hast moreover multiplied thy fornication in the land of Canaan unto Chaldea; and yet thou wast not satisfied herewith. How weak is thine heart, saith the Lord GOD, seeing thou doest all these things, the work of an imperious whorish woman; In that thou buildest thine eminent place in the head of every way, and makest thine high place in every street; and hast not been as an harlot, in that thou scornest hire; But as a wife that committeth adultery, which taketh strangers instead of her husband! They give gifts to all whores: but thou givest thy gifts to all thy lovers, and hirest them, that they may come unto thee on every side for thy whoredom. And the contrary is in thee from other women in thy whoredoms, whereas none followeth thee to commit whoredoms: and in that thou givest a reward, and no reward is given unto thee, therefore thou art contrary. Wherefore, O harlot, hear the word of the LORD: Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thy filthiness was poured out, and thy nakedness discovered through thy whoredoms with thy lovers, and with all the idols of thy abominations, and by the blood of thy children, which thou didst give unto them; Behold, therefore I will gather all thy lovers, with whom thou hast taken pleasure, and all them that thou hast loved, with all them that thou hast hated; I will even gather them round about against thee, and will discover thy nakedness unto them, that they may see all thy nakedness. And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy. And I will also give thee into their hand, and they shall throw down thine eminent place, and shall break down thy high places: they shall strip thee also of thy clothes, and shall take thy fair jewels, and leave thee naked and bare. They shall also bring up a company against thee, and they shall stone thee with stones, and thrust thee through with their swords. And they shall burn thine houses with fire, and execute judgments upon thee in the sight of many women: and I will cause thee to cease from playing the harlot, and thou also shalt give no hire any more. So will I make my fury toward thee to rest, and my jealousy shall depart from thee, and I will be quiet, and will be no more angry. Because thou hast not remembered the days of thy youth, but hast fretted me in all these things; behold, therefore I also will recompense thy way upon [thine] head, saith the Lord GOD: and thou shalt not commit this lewdness above all thine abominations. Behold, every one that useth proverbs shall use this proverb against thee, saying, As is the mother, so is her daughter. Thou art thy mother’s daughter, that lotheth her husband and her children; and thou art the sister of thy sisters, which lothed their husbands and their children: your mother was an Hittite, and your father an Amorite. And thine elder sister is Samaria, she and her daughters that dwell at thy left hand: and thy younger sister, that dwelleth at thy right hand, is Sodom and her daughters. Yet hast thou not walked after their ways, nor done after their abominations: but, as if that were a very little thing, thou wast corrupted more than they in all thy ways. As I live, saith the Lord GOD, Sodom thy sister hath not done, she nor her daughters, as thou hast done, thou and thy daughters. Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw good. Neither hath Samaria committed half of thy sins; but thou hast multiplied thine abominations more than they, and hast justified thy sisters in all thine abominations which thou hast done. Thou also, which hast judged thy sisters, bear thine own shame for thy sins that thou hast committed more abominable than they: they are more righteous than thou: yea, be thou confounded also, and bear thy shame, in that thou hast justified thy sisters. When I shall bring again their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, then will I bring again the captivity of thy captives in the midst of them: That thou mayest bear thine own shame, and mayest be confounded in all that thou hast done, in that thou art a comfort unto them. When thy sisters, Sodom and her daughters, shall return to their former estate, and Samaria and her daughters shall return to their former estate, then thou and thy daughters shall return to your former estate. For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride, Before thy wickedness was discovered, as at the time of thy reproach of the daughters of Syria, and all that are round about her, the daughters of the Philistines, which despise thee round about. Thou hast borne thy lewdness and thine abominations, saith the LORD. For thus saith the Lord GOD; I will even deal with thee as thou hast done, which hast despised the oath in breaking the covenant. Nevertheless I will remember my covenant with thee in the days of thy youth, and I will establish unto thee an everlasting covenant. Then thou shalt remember thy ways, and be ashamed, when thou shalt receive thy sisters, thine elder and thy younger: and I will give them unto thee for daughters, but not by thy covenant. And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD: That thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord GOD.”

Ezekiel 16:3-63

This is the Ultimate love story! Wonderful! Convicting! Do you love it? What will you do about it?What dowries do men pay? What dowry did Christ pay for His bride? He paid it willingly!

We play the whore when we love the world and the things thereof. When it’s music is pleasant to us, when we are entertained by it’s corruption, when we flirt with the world, when we get excited by it, we are committing whoredom, adultery against the Lord God of heaven!

The Lord paid our dowry while we were in our blood (sins and utterly defiled state before God)! He was killed to purchase us in marriage. He was beaten, to purchase us in marriage. He was mocked, scorned, ridiculed and shamed, to purchase us in marriage! His Blood purchased us! We were filthy and despicable, but the Lord said “Live”! He has washed us, cared for us and nurtured us (and continues to do so!) Are we, or how dare we, commit adultery against this ultimately great and perfect Husband?! Not only has He paid the dowry, He holds true, like no other can or will, to His covenant with us!

What will we do for Him?

What have we given for Him?

What have we forsaken for Him?

How much do we love Him?

He is worth it! Keep His commandments!

He is ALTOGEHTER lovely! Follow and be faithful to Him!

We have been forgiven much! We should love Him exceptionally!

This is our Husband! Let us love Him! Think on the Dowry He paid!

OH GOD! Be merciful to me, a sinner!

I Gave My Life For Thee

I gave My life for thee, My precious blood I shed,
That thou might ransomed be, and raised up from the dead
I gave, I gave My life for thee, what hast thou given for Me?
I gave, I gave My life for thee, what hast thou given for Me?

My Father’s house of light, My glory circled throne
I left for earthly night, for wanderings sad and lone;
I left, I left it all for thee, hast thou left aught for Me?
I left, I left it all for thee, hast thou left aught for Me?

I suffered much for thee, more than thy tongue can tell,
Of bitterest agony, to rescue thee from hell.
I’ve borne, I’ve borne it all for thee, what hast thou borne for Me?
I’ve borne, I’ve borne it all for thee, what hast thou borne for Me?

And I have brought to thee, down from My home above,
Salvation full and free, My pardon and My love;
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee, what hast thou brought to Me?
I bring, I bring rich gifts to thee, what hast thou brought to Me?
