Reflections on Speech

Blue_Grapes_Chicory

And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

James 3:18

What kind of speech are you known for? Have you ever heard the quote, “Them is fighting words!”? I have, (though I don’t know where it came from). Is this what others think about your words? Or, are you known for your gracious speech? Are your words like a sweet, delectable treat for others to enjoy and benefit from? Do your words put others at ease and fill them with peace, or do they set everybody on edge and make everyone uncomfortable? Do people want to be around you? Are they excited to see you? DO they ask for your advice? (it doesn’t count if they listen when you give them yours unasked for, that just means that they are gracious :) ) Are you a strife-maker or a peacemaker?

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”

Ephesians 4:29

The Bible has much to say on the subject of speech. Do you follow it’s guidance? If you do, then you will live a happy, peaceable, delightful life. You will have MANY friends, and even “kings” will want you for a friend! (Proverbs22:11) If you reject God’s rules for the tongue, then you can be ensured to have heartache, turmoil, unrest, and a lonely life on this earth. Beg of God to cleanse your mouth as He cleansed Isaiah’s (Isaiah 6:5-7). For we are indeed living among a people of unclean lips.

“Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:”

Proverbs 2:11

Graciousness is a rare jewel these days, but even now, those who are gracious, stand out and are admired and loved by men. Those who lack discretion and grace, and are odious and prideful in word, are despised and rejected, hated of good men. To which class of tongue do you belong?

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Colossians 4:6

I want to strive for perfection in conformity to Christ. How did Jesus speak to others? People marveled at his gracious words(Luke 4:22)! His words delighted the hearts of good men, and bad men’s mouths were closed (Matthew 22:46, Mark 12:34, Luke20:40)! Glorious! How does your speech compare? Do people know that you are a “carpenter’s son” or a “fisherman”? Let us examine our speech, and thereby our hearts, for whatsoever proceeds out of our mouth, reveals the state of it. Lord help us!

“Thou art fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into thy lips: therefore God hath blessed thee for ever.”

Just a Reminder!

When your children ask “Why don’t we…” Do you have an answer?

pumpkinGo to this link to strengthen your heart in it’s right conviction! :

With this wicked and evil, pagan and catholic, “holy-day” coming up, we should remind ourselves, and be able to answer any questions as to why we do not celebrate All Hallows Eve.

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,” 2 Corinthians 6:17

The Perilous Times of the Last Days are Upon Us! What are you Doing to Protect Yourself?

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

1 Peter 5:8

A roaring lion

We are living in the perilous times of the last days. We should pay all the more heed to our brother Peter’s warning about being sober and vigilant. Hold fast to the truth! Seek the Lord while He may be found! Pray daily for strength and guidance. Seek the wisdom that is from above which is pure! The wisdom that is only found in God’s Word, the Authorized King  James Bible, the word of the Lord preserved for us in English. A gift that we should NEVER take for granted.

“This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

~Friends~

Who are your friends? Just a post for considering this important topic in light of God’s Word… Do the people you call “friend” build you up or drag you down? Do they help or hinder you in your obedience to Christ?…

“A friend loveth at all times: but a brother is born for adversity.”

~Proverbs 17:17

A friend loveth

I am a companion of all them that fear thee, and of them that keep thy precepts.

Psalm 119:63

Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners.

1Corinthians 15:33

To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

Job 6:14

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.

Proverbs 27:6

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man’s friend by hearty counsel.

Proverbs 27:9

Apples of Gold!

My mom fulfilled the words of this verse today toward me!:

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

~Proverbs 25:11

She sent me an email with these words:

Girls are like

What a sweet thing for my mom to encourage me with! I hope that those of you who read this that are discouraged right now, are as equally encouraged as I was. Truly I have a wonderful, understanding, darling, dear mother! I love her, and will pray God’s blessing be showered upon her!

Love You Mom!

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.”

~The Sobriety of Death~

Hot_Pink_Rose_Swirl_Assortment_Pic

Today I am reflecting on life & death. The vapor of one, the meaning of the other. A friend’s brother is losing his wife. She had a premature baby not long ago, and complications afterward. The Lord could perform a “miracle” or He may take her breath away. Right now death seems eminent. The baby appears to be doing well as of right now, not knowing her mother lays on what may be her death bed.

Many times people say the first question that comes to mind is “Why?” (and I understand why.) For me , my first thought was “I wonder if Mrs. ----- trusts fully in the Lord. And If her husband does too?”

As Christians, death is just a passing unto life! We have nothing to fear, and everything to look forward to. If we hope in the Lord and trust in Him, then we should be able to say with the apostle Paul “O death, where is thy sting? o grave, where is thy victory?” (1Corinthians 15:55) I pray for this man and woman, that their faith and love in the Lord will be increased, weather in death, or in life. I pray that she can say, “To live is Christ, but to die is GAIN!”(Philippians 1:21)

I also pray for the other family members involved. I pray that our Lord will give them the right and comforting words to speak to their brother(Isaiah 50:4), and that their brother would be built up in faith and hope thereby. As brothers and sisters we are commanded to weep when others weep.(Romans 12:15) We are also to remind each other of the coming day of resurrection.(1 Thessalonians 4:16-18) Lord have mercy on this man, and comfort Him as only you can!

“I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me. Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant. Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.”

Psalm 119:75-77

Just a sober reflection. Pray for this family… Examine your own heart too. Where does your hope lie? In life? Or in death?

How Sweet to Die
Farewell, vain world, I'm going home,
My Savior bids me come,
Sweet angels beckon from on high,
Then, O How sweet to die.

I'm glad that I am born to die,
From grief my soul shall fly,
Sweet angels beckon from on high,
Then, O how sweet to die.

I'll praise my Savior while I've breath,
I'll praise Him after death,
I'll praise His matchless name on high,
Then, O how sweet to die.

I soon shall pass this vale of death,
When I shall lose my breath,
And then my happy soul shall fly,
Then, O how sweet to die.

The Beauty of Autumn…

          Thank you Lord!

“He changeth the times and the seasons.”

Daniel 2:21

reflection

Chilly weather is setting in… the leaves are changing from green to brilliant reds, oranges, yellows etc.

ITS FALL!!!

The Lord is so good to His children… and not just to His children, for he maketh His sun to shine on the just and the unjust. I love the season changes! Never a boring moment in God’s creation! His love for us is amazing and unbounded! He shows it in even the seemingly minor details of life. Have you thanked Him for the beauty of this season? Or are you complaining of allergies, cold fingers, raking that “must” be done, etc. Let us lift His name on high for the glories He reveals to us through nature… And just think, if this is how lovely this fallen world is, how much better MUST heaven be?!

~Contentment~

“But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

1Timothy 6:6

The Lord has been instructing me on this quality quite a bit lately. Contentment is a choice, not a condition. We should be content with everything (except in striving for perfection in our conformity to Christ). We must be content with our parents, our siblings, the country we live in, our gender, our hair color, how tall (or short) we are, our marital statice, our church body, etc…etc…etc… Let us examine our hearts TODAY!

The definition of Contentment:

“A resting or satisfaction of mind without disquiet; acquiescence.”

Webster’s 1828 Dictionary

And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.”

1Timothy 6:8

I pray that I can be content with and in the Lord’s will for my life! He has done SO much for me… Oh Lord! What have I done for Thee?

Leaving Father and Mother

           To be joined as one!

Sweet Hands B1 and K

On October 1st, the year of our Lord 2011, my eldest brother took a bride! Bryant James Cutler & Kathryn Elena Jackson became one flesh, to serve the Lord together, as long as they both shall live!

The Happy New Couple

I pray the Lord’s blessings be poured out abundantly upon them, as they embark on this journey together. I pray that the Lord will guide them. May He help Bryant to love his bride as Christ loves the church, and may Kathryn reverence her husband as did Sarah, Abraham.

He Loves Her!

They entered into marriage in purity, having saved their first kisses for each other. Kathryn’s father was able to present her a pure bride to my brother, giving a shadow, a picture, a type, of our presenting as a church to our Husband Jesus Christ!

First Kiss

May they live in obedience to Christ as they seek to serve Him together! They are a wonderful example to their siblings, and for their excellent example, I commend them! The Lord be glorified in and through their years together!

Headin Out!

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”

~ Ephesians 5:22-26
