Rightly Dividing

god's word

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2Timothy 2:15

Recently I have seen the following verse used out of context, and misinterpreted. Many people take “sound bites” from God’s Word and don’t pay any attention to context. Sadly they wrongly divide the Truth, and mislead others thereby. The verse is:

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

What do you think this verse means? What is the Word of God? Wait! Even in that simple question there is error. The question is not what, but Who is the Word of God! Look at the context:

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”

Hebrews 4:12-15

Can a book discern anything? Thank you Lord for understanding!

The Lord is my Shepherd!

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life.”

John 10:27,28

A shepherd

Dearest Lord and Omnipotent Father,

Thank you Lord for choosing me to be your sheep, and thereby giving me eternal life and a heavenly home! Help me to faithfully follow you, my Shepherd and my Saviour!

May each of your elect children hear and listen to your voice. May they obey it and come to the knowledge of the truth.

Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us!

Savior, like a shepherd lead us, much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, for our use Thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.

We are Thine, do Thou befriend us, be the guardian of our way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us, seek us when we go astray.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Hear, O hear us when we pray.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Hear, O hear us when we pray.

Thou hast promised to receive us, poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us, grace to cleanse and power to free.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Let us early turn to Thee.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Let us early turn to Thee.

Early let us seek Thy favor, early let us do Thy will;
Blessed Lord and only Savior, with Thy love our bosoms fill.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast loved us, love us still.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus! Thou hast loved us, love us still.

“Hate the Sin Love the Sinner” Is a Farce!

“The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.”

Psalm 5:5

God hates sin and the sinner. The only reason He loves some is because of His mercy in electing and covering them in His Son’s righteousness! Thank you Lord for Thy free grace! Without it, I know I'm lost! I would never have chosen Thee if Thou had not chosen me! Thou hast taken the sin that stained and marred me and cleansed me in Thy Son’s blood, making me new! Of old Thou hast ordained me to live in Thee!

Thank you Lord!!

“Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth. Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”

Romans 9:18

In Everything Give Thanks!

happy thanksgiving

I have so many things to be thankful for! May I ever have His praise on my tongue, Who daily loadeth me with benefits and renews His mercy to me each morning!! Not just on this day, but each and every day!

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving; and into His courts with praise. Be thankful unto Him and bless His name!”

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”

“O give thanks unto the LORD, for He is good: for His mercy endureth forever!”

I hope you have a blessing filled thanksgiving, and many opportunities to bless His name Who gives to us abundantly above what we could ask or think!!

Thank You Lord!

“These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”

Hebrews 11:13

Praising the Lord today, that I was born on this side of the cross! Thank you, dear Father, for your mercy! May I live in light of that, and have MORE & GREATER faith than those found in Hebrews 11!

Do You Want to be Blessed?

This verse goes well with the last one posted!

Blessed is every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways.”

Psalm 128:1

My soul waiteth on the Lord

What Are You Afraid of?

"It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God."

Hebrews 10:31

We need not fear men who are only able to kill the body. Our brother Paul tells us what we should fear.  We should fear God, Who is able to destroy both body and soul in hell! Sobering thoughts. Fear not to do the will of God and obey Him because men may scoff. The Lord has the power to say “Depart from me ye worker of iniquity! I never knew you!” or “Well done, thou good and faithful servant! Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord!” So, choose ye this day whom ye will serve!

Therefore Have I Hope!

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD.”

42 Years Ago Today…

         James Edward Cutler was born!

B8 & DadDad and Berean at Bryant’s wedding in October

I praise the Lord today for my Father!

He loves the Lord with all His might, and has striven, and continues to strive, to instill a love and fear of the Lord in His children!

“Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.”

Proverbs 22:29

My father is an excellent example of diligent work! He has always worked VERY hard to provide for his family, and the Lord has prospered him for his diligent, hard, persevering, work. I pray that He continues to bless him abundantly, as he continues to work as unto the Lord!

“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.”

Proverbs 9:10

My father is very wise! He fears the Lord and walks in His ways. It is his chief concern to conform his life to Christ’s. I have watched my father grow and change, over the years, based upon his convictions and better understanding of God’s Word! Dad is never concerned about what is popular,  but only what is in accordance with the Bible. He would reject all, to follow His Master! Thank you, dad, for that example!

“Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.”

1Peter 2:17

I am thankful for my dad’s example of honor and respect of authority. He speaks honorably of his parents, his bosses, the government, pastors etc.

My father’s love for our church is great! He labors abundantly for the profit of each member of our small congregation. He greets each one with cheerfulness. He is popular among the little people too. If it weren’t for him, our church wouldn’t be. His hospitality, his willingness to receive instruction and his love for all of God’s children, built our church. I am so thankful for God’s sovereign hand in all of that!

“Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;”

Ephesians 5:25

He is the faithful husband of Jacqueline Verna. He is a wonderful example of a loving husband! He and my mother have been married for 22 years. He washes his wife in the Word and trains his children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Dad is a great encourager! He loves and builds each of us up unto greater godliness.

“ But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22,23

My father is a humble man. Many come to him for counsel and advice, but he would never be condescending to anyone. He is gracious. He is longsuffering. He is forgiving. He is joyful. He is loving. He is gentle. He is good. He is temperate. He is a leader. He is so many things, that it would take a long time to list all of the things that he is!

I want to thank the Lord publicly for giving me to this man to be his daughter!  I pray that the Lord will reward him, and shower him with many blessings!

41 Years Ago Today…

My Mother, Jacqueline Verna, was born!

mom and dad

~Dad and mom in 2010~

“Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. “

I praise and thank the Lord God in heaven for one of His greatest gifts to me! The gift of having this virtuous woman for my mom!

“The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

My mother has been the faithful wife of James Edward Cutler for 22 years. It has been a blessing watching her love of the Lord, and therefore love for her husband, grow and strengthen each year. My father trusts this woman!

“She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night. She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.”

My mother is the most diligent woman I know! She works very hard for her husband and 8 children! Even when she is ill, she continues to serve us all with the utmost attention and love. She is very wise in many ways, and has been my father’s “business partner” for many years. She has built houses from scratch, completely gutted and redone houses, has made the “ugliest” dwellings comfortable and functional, has started a couple of businesses with dad, has multiple acre gardens, cans food for us to eat in the winter, is my father’s greatest support in any and every endeavor of his! The list could go on & on…

“She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.”

I have seen my mom prepare meals and a warm bed for complete strangers that my dad has picked up off the road from time to time. She has the most cheerful attitude about it and does not complain! She makes them feel welcome, and reminds us children about the verse that says perhaps you are entertaining angels unawares. She provides for us faithfully and carefully, and always dresses us and herself well.

“Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land. She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.”

My father is known as a wise man and many seek his advice and counsel. My mother is right there behind him encouraging and loving him every at step. I have seen her ability to sell things to merchants especially in recent years because of our farm. She handled all of the phone calls and emails, and did a marvelous job!

“Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.”

My mother is a very strong woman, both in body and spirit! She is honorable and I pray that she is able to continue to rejoice in the Lord’s goodness and faithfulness! She is very wise and many look up to her as an example and come to her for her wise counsel and encouragement. We all are well cared for and fed, and live in a wonderful home, cared for by the diligent hands of our wife and mother! She is no idle woman!

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

I arise today and call my mother blessed! She is a wonderful woman to just know, but she is MY mother!She excels all women to me! She is the best! Though she is a beautiful woman, she cares not for outward appearance. She fears the Lord, and that is what people know her for.

Lord bless my dear mother!

Happy Birthday Mom!

Addressed to a Godly Young Lady

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;” 1Timothy 2:9

Addressed to a Young Lady

“Sweet stream that winds through yonder glade,
Apt emblem of a virtuous maid -
Silent and chaste she steals along,
Far from the world’s gay busy throng;
With gentle, yet prevailing force
Intent upon her destined course;
Graceful and useful all she does,
Blessing and bless’d where’ere she goes,
Pure-bosom’d as that wat’ry glass,
And Heav’n reflected in her face.”

- Cowper

“Let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

1Peter 3:4

What do people remember you for, young lady? For your graciousness, kindness, gentleness, meekness, modesty and sobriety? Or, for your fashionable attire, your shapely body, your flashy make-up and loud, attention drawing speech and actions? Lord help each of your daughters to develop the spirit that you love and desire! Help us to have more excitement and attention for our inner beauty than we do for the outward. Help our attention placed upon the outward, reflect a pure and lovely heart, whose focus is on you!

Am I A Soldier Of The Cross?

Am I a soldier of the cross,
a follower of the Lamb,
and shall I fear to own his cause,
or blush to speak his name?
Must I be carried to the skies
on flowery beds of ease,
while others fought to win the prize,
and sailed through bloody seas?

Are there no foes for me to face?
Must I not stem the flood?
Is this vile world a friend to grace,
to help me on to God?
Sure I must fight, if I would reign;
increase my courage, Lord.
I'll bear the toil, endure the pain,
supported by thy word.

Thy saints in all this glorious war
shall conquer though they die;
they see the triumph from afar,
by faith they bring it nigh.
When that illustrious day shall rise,
and all thy armies shine
in robes of victory through the skies,
the glory shall be thine.

From Whence Springs True Joy?

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 22:37-40

Are you happy? Do you feel fulfilled? Do you feel restless or ready for “the next best thing.”?

We need to examine our hearts in search of discontentment in disguise. Many times we make excuses for, and don’t recognize this SIN behind it’s guise of “loneliness” and/or “restlessness”. This restlessness does not spring forth from a lack of what we need. We condition ourselves to think that we will be happy and find true joy and fulfillment by whatever is “Just around the corner.” “ If only I was in that church…” “If only I had those friends…” “If only I had that job…” “If only I was (or wasn’t) married to so-and-so…” the list could go on. The loneliness or restlessness that is felt, will not be quenched in a new church, or with different people to have relationships with, etc….

We are discontent because of our own neglect of duty or our disobedience to God! We are not seeking the Lord with our whole hearts, we are not encouraging, loving and caring for the brothers and sisters in our own church body, we are not reverencing our husbands, loving our wives, honouring our parents, serving our masters, etc.

We get so busy trying to find the “latest greatest” that we totally miss the fulfillment and joy that is right in front of our eyeballs! While out looking for “the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow”, we forfeit the precious jewels to be had on our doorstep!

If you want to be happy, if you want peace, if you want contentment, then love the Lord and fulfill His commandments! The joy that springs forth from contentment will be yours, if you invest your time and effort in the Lord and the people that He has placed you with, both at home and in the Church.

May the Lord strengthen us all to do His pleasure and to be content with whatsoever state we are in. Oh Lord, make me to go in Thy way! For only therein is found the peace and comfort of true joy!
