Addressed to a Godly Young Lady

“In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;” 1Timothy 2:9

Addressed to a Young Lady

“Sweet stream that winds through yonder glade,
Apt emblem of a virtuous maid -
Silent and chaste she steals along,
Far from the world’s gay busy throng;
With gentle, yet prevailing force
Intent upon her destined course;
Graceful and useful all she does,
Blessing and bless’d where’ere she goes,
Pure-bosom’d as that wat’ry glass,
And Heav’n reflected in her face.”

- Cowper

“Let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.”

1Peter 3:4

What do people remember you for, young lady? For your graciousness, kindness, gentleness, meekness, modesty and sobriety? Or, for your fashionable attire, your shapely body, your flashy make-up and loud, attention drawing speech and actions? Lord help each of your daughters to develop the spirit that you love and desire! Help us to have more excitement and attention for our inner beauty than we do for the outward. Help our attention placed upon the outward, reflect a pure and lovely heart, whose focus is on you!
