Rightly Dividing

god's word

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2Timothy 2:15

Recently I have seen the following verse used out of context, and misinterpreted. Many people take “sound bites” from God’s Word and don’t pay any attention to context. Sadly they wrongly divide the Truth, and mislead others thereby. The verse is:

“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Hebrews 4:12

What do you think this verse means? What is the Word of God? Wait! Even in that simple question there is error. The question is not what, but Who is the Word of God! Look at the context:

“For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.”

Hebrews 4:12-15

Can a book discern anything? Thank you Lord for understanding!

  2. Sorry to those of you who already commented on this post. My dad pointed out that Jesus in verse 8 is Joshua. This I knew, but was quickly putting the post together :) Sorry for the error.Flame of JAH, Yes I believe that the KJV is the Word of God in English! Thank you for asking. Are you?

  3. Yes, I am King James only. It is nice to find more like minded believers.

  4. Amen! They are few and far between! Thank you for posting! I saw that you are a farmer. We had a farm, though we just liquidated. We were doing large scale pastured poultry, grass fed beef and raw milk, but now we just have enough for our family. It is neat to find other farmers too! Again thanks for posting.

  6. Oh, we don't run a commercial operation, just a small farm for ourselves, we would like to at least be able to produce enough here to break even but we have not reached that goal yet. If you don't mind me asking, what did y'all sell out for? BTW, I love farming.

  7. Flame of Jah - We sold out for many reasons. The main one being my elder brother got married and moved and it was mainly for him that we had it. Also, we were not able to do any more than break even. And many other reasons too. We love having the farm for ourselves though. I hope your farm succeeds.

  9. Ahhhh, ok. The NKJV says "For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day."
