Blessed Are the Pure in Heart!

Part 9 Forgotten Sins

This is a long list of 10 sins, that are very common and even laughed at and encouraged today! Let us not only hate this heinous sin and have no part in it, but have no pleasure or love for them that commit such things! There are MANY verses that I could include with each sin, but because of the volume, I am only going to quote 1 or 2 with each.

1. Chambering: Sexual indulgence, lewdness; luxury, effeminacy; esp. in a chamber for it.

“Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.” Romans 13:13

“For at the window of my house I looked through my casement, And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding, Passing through the street near her corner; and he went the way to her house, In the twilight, in the evening, in the black and dark night: And, behold, there met him a woman with the attire of an harlot, and subtil of heart. (She is loud and stubborn; her feet abide not in her house: Now is she without, now in the streets, and lieth in wait at every corner.) So she caught him, and kissed him, and with an impudent face said unto him, I have peace offerings with me; this day have I payed my vows. Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee. I have decked my bed with coverings of tapestry, with carved works, with fine linen of Egypt. I have perfumed my bed with myrrh, aloes, and cinnamon. Come, let us take our fill of love until the morning: let us solace ourselves with loves. For the goodman is not at home, he is gone a long journey: He hath taken a bag of money with him, and will come home at the day appointed. With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him. He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks; Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.” Proverbs 7:6-23

2. Concupiscence: Eager or vehement desire, especially libidinous desire, sexual appetite, lust. Paul admitted this sin was identified in his own life by the law against lust, or coveting; therefore, we understand it to be the sinful desire and lust that leads to fornication.

“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:” Colosians 3:5

“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.” 1 Thessalonians 4:3-7

3. Fornication: Voluntary sexual intercourse between two people who are not married to each other; a large category of sexual sins including adultery and sodomy

“But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.” 1 Corinthians  5:11 Note: Notice this verse says the man is called a brother, this doesn’t say a reprobate!

“Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”
Romans 1:29-32

4. Lasciviousness:Inclined to lust, lewd, wanton.

A. Lewd: Lascivious. Unchaste.

B. Wanton: Of persons: undisciplined, ungoverned; not amenable to control, unmanageable, rebellious.

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Mark 7:21-23

5. Filthiness: Moral  corruption or pollution; obscenity; vileness, wickedness, lewdness.

A. Filthy:  Disgraceful, contemptible, low, mean, scurvy, disgusting.

B. Filth:  A vile creature; a scoundrel; slut, drab, whore.

C. Obscene:  Offensive to the senses, or to taste or refinement; disgusting, repulsive, filthy, foul,  abominable,  loathsome.  Offensive to modesty or decency; expressing or suggesting unchaste or lustful ideas; impure, indecent, lewd.

D. Vile:  Despicable on moral grounds; deserving to be regarded  with abhorrence or disgust;  characterized by baseness or depravity.

E. Lewd: Bad, vile, evil, wicked, base; unprincipled, ill-conditioned; good-for-nothing,  worthless,  ‘naught.’ Lascivious, unchaste

“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” Ephesians 5:3-5

“But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.” Colossians 3:8

6. Incontinent: Want of continence or self-restraint; inability to  contain  or  retain;  with reference to the bodily appetites, esp. the sexual passion: unchastity.

“Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;” 1 Timothy 3:3

“Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.” 1 Corinthians 7:5

7. Naughtiness: Wickedness, viciousness,  depravity.

A. Naughty:  Characterized by moral badness or wickedness; bad, wrong, blameworthy, improper

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” James 1:21

8. Uncleanness: The quality or state of being morally or spiritually unclean; moral impurity; sexual fornication or filthiness; an instance of this

“Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” Galatians 5:19-21

9. Whoremonger: One who has dealings with whores; one  who  practices  whoredom;  a fornicator, lecher.

A. Whoredom:  The  practice  of playing the whore, or of intercourse with whores; illicit sexual indulgence in general; fornication, harlotry.

“For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” Ephesians 5:5

“For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults: And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.” 2 Corinthians 12:20-21

10: Wantonness: Undisciplined, ungoverned; not amenable to control, unmanageable, rebellious.  2. Lascivious, unchaste, lewd.

“Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.” Romans 13:13
