Blinded!

“Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.”

Romans 1:21

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.” 2 Thessalonians 2:9-12

Today I was reflecting on these verses, and soberly considering there implications. It was brought to my mind when I read, with much grief, someone's twisted view of salvation. They wrote a scathing and scornful review of a pastor’s sermon outline, saying “This document is COMPLETE HERESY! I read only through the first page and a bit of the second...I found many lies. To think that there are somehow phases or "aspects" of salvation such as legal, vital or practical...why, the scriptures do NOT teach that.” This was only a small piece of what was said. I was angered by the scornful, harsh and critical spirit of the woman who wrote this, about and against a man of God and the truth he preaches!

Yes, it was a woman. That is what doubly caught my attention. We, dear ladies, are more easily deceived than men. This isn’t because we are less intelligent or anything like that, it is simply because the Lord made us to follow and to be more emotionally responsive than men. Remember that it was Eve who was deceived. Adam simply chose his fleshly desires instead of  obeying God. It does not say that Adam was deceived by Satan at all.

This woman, who calls herself a preacher, proceeded to quote many scriptures that she thinks indicate that you can lose your salvation (eternally) and that God has no will in salvation, all the will is man’s. It struck me that it can only be the hand of God that blinds men this way, that they cannot see the truth! “He sends them strong delusion that they should believe a lie”. We can become so puffed up in ourselves and our wicked hearts can deceive us completely! We must beseech the Lord to uncover our eyes and enlighten our hearts!

I just wanted to post this as a warning to us women and girls. Our emotions can get the best of us and our foolish hearts can lead us captive if we do not rule our spirits and submit to God’s order! God has chosen men and put them in an office of leadership as pastors and teachers over us. Who are we to bark against them! We should not reject this authority, but humbly submit ourselves unto it. We should not usurp the authority of the man! The Lord forbids it!

As to this particular woman’s silly statement about the phases or aspects of salvation, I remembered these verses:

“Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,” 2 Timothy 1:9

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1Timothy 1:15

“Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy hesaved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;” Titus 3:5

“Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.” 1Timothy 4:16

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” Romans 13:11

We have to remember not to come to the preaching of God’s word with a skeptical, scornful, haughty, attitude and our own preconceived ideas. If we do the Lord will surely blind us! We must come to it with a ready mind and a humble heart, ready to hear and receive the Word of God and submit ourselves unto it. We must also remember that the Lord hides these things from the wise and prudent and reveals them unto babes! Praise God!

I hope this post makes since. I was just so stirred up about the foolishness of men (or women in this case) and the sobriety of the possibility of the Lord blinding our eyes.

May we all, men and women alike, take heed to the warning of the above verses, and walk soberly and righteously in this present world! And let us glory in the Lord, not ourselves, for the truth He has shown us! For had He not revealed the truth to us, we would all be blind!

“Not unto us, O LORD, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake. Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God? But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.” Psalm 115:1-3
