~Trammels to Prayer~

The LORD has given us the directive to pray, and He even gave us instructions on how, when and what to pray. But, He also warns us of some hindrances to prayer. Here I will name 7 of those to think about.
1. Selfish purposes will rob our prayers of power:

“Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”
James 4:3

2. Sin hinders prayer, therefore we must repent!

“Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
Isaiah 59:1,2

3. Idols in our hearts can cause a deaf ear to be turned toward our prayers.

“Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?”
Ezekiel 14:3
4. Stinginess, or the lack of generosity trammels prayer.

“Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.”
Proverbs 21:13

5. An unforgiving spirit will stop up God’s ears against our prayers.

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Mark 11:25

6. Bad relations between husbands and wives can hamper one’s prayers.

“Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
1 Peter 3:7

7. A heart of unbelief will hobble our prayers.

“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.”
James 1:5-7

May the LORD help us to examine our hearts, to see if there is any wicked way in us and may He lead us in the way everlasting!
God be merciful to me a sinner

~Communing With the LORD~

Jehovah, our Omnipotent, Almighty, Infinite, Creator is approachable! But, how can we, or do we come before Him? We commune with our LORD through prayer. I have recently been enjoying a soul satisfying study on prayer, and I wanted to share some of the highlights.

We pray to God! When, therefore, we pray, there must be a conscious, definite approach unto Him made.

“Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.”

Acts 12:5

We must pray without ceasing! In other words we must pray intensely and earnestly, as our Lord Jesus Christ set the example for us while here on earth.

“And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.”

Luke 22:41-44

We must be obedient lest our prayers be not heard!

“And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.”

1 John 3:22

We must pray according to the will of God! We know God’s will through His Word.

“And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.”

1 John 5:14,15

We should pray in the Spirit. The Spirit inspires and directs prayer. Wait for the Spirit by being silent before the LORD. “Be still…”

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;”

Ephesians 6:18

Pray in faith! We get faith by the Word of God.

“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

Mark 11:24

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”

Romans 10:17

Do not faint in prayer! Pray with persistence and insistence.(Lk. 11:5-8)

“And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?”

Luke 18:1-8

We must abide in Christ! Renounce any independent life of our own and cleave only to His thoughts and words. A great way to cling to them and keep them ever present in your mind is to memorize Scripture.

“If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.”

John 15:7

Pray with much thanksgiving! (Luke 17:17; Luke 24:53)

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6,7

Pray early in the day. All is quiet, without distraction and fresh. Talking to your LORD is an excellent way to start the day! Again, Christ is our example:

“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

Mark 1:35

Pray in all seasons, or without ceasing!

“Pray without ceasing.”

1 Thessalonians 5:17

Pray in Christ’s name. He is our mediator. Without Him  we cannot/ could not go before the Throne! With Him we can go boldly!

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.”

John 14:13,14

Pray for the LORD’s guidance and ask Him to teach you to pray! Apply your heart to wisdom… God’s Word!

Loving This Right Now!

“Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me. I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.”

John 17:7-11

I am thankful for our mediated Father Who has given us a High Priest, yea, even made us kings & priests to come boldly before His throne of grace! AND… He will lose none of His! Thank you LORD!
