Heart Check

“And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”
Revelation 2:3-5

“I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”
Revelation 3:15,16

Sometimes examining yourself can be hard… but it is a good practice. People think that going to the doctor for a check-up to make sure everything is in proper working order is important..but how much more, going before the Great Physician to see if our heart is healthy and full of light, pumping at the correct level of fervency?!

It has been quite a while since my last post that wasn’t a hymn or something…and to be honest I have felt ZERO motivation to write a post of late. Well, I was thinking about my excitement for God’s Word and truth…my first love…and how that has been diminished in the past few months. Why? I have asked myself that question and of course the answer rises directly to the top. The problem is that there is no…absolutely no… good excuse for it.

What is my heart fixed upon?

What does it love?

What does it desire?

Is there one thing that I desire of the LORD?

Is that what I seek after?

Do I truly delight in my LORD because He is delightful?

Do I love the Lord Jesus Christ because He is Altogether Lovely?

How did I let my deceitful heart lose its passion for Him?

Why has my zeal diminished?

Shall I not receive good at the hand of the LORD and not evil also?

Alright…I have my stethoscope (My Bible) and I am listening to my heart…

mmm.. there’s a problem. Here’s what it sounded like at the beginning of this year..

Why has the rate decreased? Time to restore my romance!

Time to chase after my LORD as in the beginning! He has given me so much! He allowed me to have a conscience at a young age, being baptized at 7 years old…what have I done to prove my love and zeal for Him?! Have I rendered Him my reasonable best these past few months? Or have I let the billows roll over me and choke me? Have I had faith or started to sink? Did I even, like Peter, call out Lord! Save me or I sink?! or did I allow my soul to drown?

Oh LORD! Whatever my lot though hast taught me to say  it is well with my soul! Be still my soul thy God will undertake to guide the future, as He has the past. Thy hope, thy confidence let NOTHING shake! Chasten my soul ‘til I shall be in perfect harmony with Thee!

I cry:  LORD, please come in and sup once more with me…I shall not leave go of you until you do!! I will aggressively seek You with my whole heart, fervently!

He truly is my Beloved! My Beloved is mine and I am His! Praise His beautiful, wonderful, majestic, sweet name!

I love you LORD!

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
Revelation 3:20

P.s. to my reading audience…I still may not be able to post here very often (I have a job at a florist)…but I do want to post something to glorify my Jesus and magnify Him as best as I can when I do! If any of you are feeling discouraged…I would love for you to leave a comment! I feel so fully fed and overflowing…I would like to share my feast :)

‘Til The Storm Passes By

In the dark of the midnight have I oft hid my face, While the storm howls above me, and there's no hiding place. 'Mid the crash of the thunder, Precious Lord, hear my cry, Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

‘Til the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, Till the clouds roll forever from the sky; Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand, Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Many times Satan whispered, "There is no need to try, For there's no end of sorrow, there's no hope by and by" But I know Thou art with me, and tomorrow I'll rise Where the storms never darken the skies.

‘Til the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, Till the clouds roll forever from the sky; Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand, Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

When the long night has ended and the storms come no more, Let me stand in Thy presence on the bright peaceful shore; In that land where the tempest, never comes, Lord, may I Dwell with Thee when the storm passes by.

‘Til the storm passes over, till the thunder sounds no more, Till the clouds roll forever from the sky; Hold me fast, let me stand in the hollow of Thy hand, Keep me safe till the storm passes by.

Wonderful! Merciful! Saviour!

Wonderful, merciful Savior
Precious Redeemer and Friend
Who would have thought that a Lamb
Could rescue the souls of men
Oh you rescue the souls of men.

Counselor, Comforter, Keeper
Spirit we long to embrace
You offer hope when our hearts have
Hopelessly lost our way
Oh, we've hopelessly lost the way.

You are the One that we praise
You are the One we adore
You give the healing and grace
Our hearts always hunger for
Oh, our hearts always hunger for.

Almighty, infinite Father
Faithfully loving Your own
Here in our weakness You find us
Falling before Your throne
Oh, we're falling before Your throne.

My Heart is Full…

Too full to write words.. but God, both in His Word through the inspiration of the Holy Ghost and also through words penned by His children in hymns and spiritual songs, has given us comfort, conviction, exhortation, etc. … Here are some words that I have been thinking on lately:

A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.

In Christ alone my hope is found,
He is my light, my strength, my song;
this Cornerstone, this solid Ground,
firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
when fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My Comforter, my All in All,
here in the love of Christ I stand.

In Christ alone! who took on flesh
Fulness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness
Scorned by the ones he came to save:
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied -
For every sin on Him was laid;
Here in the death of Christ I live.

There in the ground His body lay
Light of the world by darkness slain:
Then bursting forth in glorious Day
Up from the grave he rose again!
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me,
For I am His and He is mine -
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

No guilt in life, no fear in death,
This is the power of Christ in me;
From life's first cry to final breath.
Jesus commands my destiny.
No power of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home,
Here in the power of Christ I'll stand.

Listen to this hymn here

“He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend.”
Proverbs 22:11

Never a Friend Like Jesus

Is there a heart bent o’erbound by sorrow?
Is there a life weighed down by care?
Come to the cross, each burden bearing;
All your anxiety—leave it there.

All your anxiety, all your care,
Bring to the mercy seat, leave it there,
Never a burden He cannot bear,
Never a friend like Jesus!

No other friend so swift to help you,
No other friend so quick to hear,
No other place to leave your burden,
No other one to hear your prayer.

Come then at once; delay no longer!
Heed His entreaty kind and sweet,
You need not fear a disappointment;
You shall find peace at the mercy seat.

Edward H. Joy

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4

Thankful for our Heavenly Friend~ He it is above all others that deserves the name of Friend! His is love beyond a brother’s. His comfort and care, His tender mercies for His children, are boundless. May all of His children everywhere find solace in prayer for whatever trial He sends them through… Some through the waters, some through the flood, some through the fire, but all through the blood; some through great sorrow, but God gives a song, in the night season and all the day long.

My dearest friend here on earth is in the hospital right now and I dedicate this post to her! Her faith in the LORD is high and I’m thankful for her ability to praise the LORD in this!

May the LORD be with you Sarah, continually! May you feel His everlasting arms beneath, above, all around you!

I love you my sister!

I have so many things to be thankful for… but today I’ll only mention a couple of things…

My family: Dad, mom, Bryant, Brady, Kathryn, Breagan, Bethany, Brigitta, Bellhannah, Berean and Bob!

And the rest of my family: Mr. Weir, Mr. Frisella, Ryan, Sarah and Jason!

That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Ephesians 4:14-16

The LORD has been so good to me :) This weekend (well the end of the week meaning Thursday, and Friday) I got to spend time with most of the people listed above. There is nothing more pleasant and encouraging than being with my brothers and sisters! So much affection and care was given to me and I am full of gratitude. Here are a few pictures of some of my family… wish I had photos of all:

Me: Haha! Looks just like ‘im!

Jason: yep! That’s how photography works :)

Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity~Psalm 133:1

No campfire would be complete without singing! Good memory tester to sing in the dark without a hymnal :)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching andadmonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. ~Colossians 3:16

Thank you, O LORD, for my family!

Thank you for friends too!

You are good to your children!

Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.”

And for the Handel’s Messiah lovers:

(Yes, I’m included in that number ;))

“For thus saith the Lord of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land; And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, saith the Lord of hosts. The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, saith the Lord of hosts. The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the Lordof hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the Lord of hosts.”

“Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger.”

“For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.”

“The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”

Sorry for the long time absence! I was taking a bit of a break from blogging, though not from feeding on the Bread which the LORD has provided for our daily feasting! I have had the rest of the minor Prophet verses written down for a while and will attempt to post the final ones over the next few days… then I will be gone again for a little while…

The LORD is good and daily loads us with benefits! He is a strong hold in the day of trouble! A comfort and rest for the weary! We can come to Him for all things and I hope and pray that He is lifting the souls of His saints wherever  & anywhere that they might be… showing His hand to be mighty and His grace to be sufficient!

“Art thou not from everlasting, O Lord my God, mine Holy One? we shall not die. O Lord, thou hast ordained them for judgment; and, O mighty God, thou hast established them for correction. Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity: wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy tongue when the wicked devoureth the man that is more righteous than he?”

Habakkuk 1:12,13

“Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.”

Habakkuk 2:4

“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of theLord, as the waters cover the sea.”

Habakkuk 2:14

“But the Lord is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.”

Habakkuk 2:20

“Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.”

“God is jealous, and the Lord revengeth; the Lord revengeth, and is furious; the Lord will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The Lord is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the Lord hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein. Who can stand before his indignation? and who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? his fury is poured out like fire, and the rocks are thrown down by him. The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.”

Nahum 1:2-7

“And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice. For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God. When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple. They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.”

Jonah 2:2-9

“And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.”

‘Twas With an Everlasting Love

‘Twas with an everlasting love,

That God His own elect embraced,

Before He made the worlds above,

Or earth on her huge columns placed.

Long ere the sun’s refulgent ray,

Primeval shades of darkness drove,

They on His sacred bosom lay,

Loved with an everlasting love.

Then, in His love and His decrees,

Christ and His bride appeared as one;

Her sin, by imputation His,

While she in spotless splendor shown.

O love! How high thy glories swell!

How great, immutable and free;

Ten thousand sins as black as hell,

Are swallowed up, O love, by thee.

Believer, here thy comfort stands,

From first to last salvation’s free;

And everlasting love demands,

An everlasting song from thee.

Only one verse today… from a one chapter book :)

“But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions.”

Verse 17

Saturday, March 16, 2013

“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

Amos 3:3

“Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the Lord, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph.”

Amos 5:14,15

This little book is JAM packed! I really wanted to copy the whole book and paste it into this post… but I think I pared it down to a few “teasers” to whet your appetite ;)…

“Sanctify ye a fast, call a solemn assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of the Lord your God, and cry unto the Lord, Alas for the day! for the day of the Lord is at hand, and as a destruction from the Almighty shall it come.”

Joel 1:14,15

“Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.”

Joel 2:12,13

“Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet. Let the priests, the ministers of the Lord, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God? Then will the Lord be jealous for his land, and pity his people. Yea, the Lord will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen: But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things. Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the Lord will do great things.”

Joel 2:15-21

“Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the Lord your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.”

Joel 2:23

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.”

Joel 2:25,26

A lot that I loved in chapter 2 as you can see  :)

“And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.”

Hosea 2:23

“I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. Come, and let us return unto the Lord: for he hath torn, and he will heal us; he hath smitten, and he will bind us up. After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight.Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth.”

Hosea 5:15-6:3

“For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.”

Hosea 6:6

“Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.”

Hosea 10:12

Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment and wait on thy God continually.”

Hosea 12:6

“Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips.”

Hosea 14:2

“I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon. They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon.”

Hosea 14:4-7

I am sorry to confuse you… I started with Lamentations yesterday and meant to skip only Ezekiel and Daniel and start in on Hosea… BUT, I was intrigued by Micah! Allow me to give you the verses that I most loved from that book , then I shall begin on Hosea tomorrow and attempt to go in order after this… : )

“And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem.”

Micah 4:2

“And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.”

Micah 5:4

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the Lordrequire of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

Micah 6:8

“Therefore I will look unto the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me. Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.”

Micah 7:7,8

“Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy. He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

Micah 7:18,19

Loving the Minors…

I am reading through the minor Prophets right now and so the next several posts are going to be the verses that I most love from each… Well, I start with Lamentations, and though Jeremiah is not considered a minor prophet I am going to include these…

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The Lord is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. The Lord is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the Lord.

Lamentations 3:21-26

“Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to the Lord. Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.”

Lamentations 3:40,41

“Thou hast heard my voice: hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry. Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee: thou saidst, Fear not. O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.”

Lamentations 3:56-58

“Thou, O Lord, remainest for ever; thy throne from generation to generation. Wherefore dost thou forget us for ever, and forsake us so long time? Turn thou us unto thee, O Lord, and we shall be turned; renew our days as of old.”

Lamentations 5:19-21

I Need Thee Every Hour

I need thee every hour, most gracious Lord;
no tender voice like thine can peace afford.

I need thee every hour; stay thou nearby;
temptations lose their power when thou art nigh.

I need thee every hour, in joy or pain;
come quickly and abide, or life is vain.

I need thee every hour; teach me thy will;
and thy rich promises in me fulfill.

I need thee every hour, most Holy One;
O make me thine indeed, thou blessed Son.

I need thee, O I need thee;

every hour I need thee; O bless me now,

my Savior, I come to thee.

The Greatest Test…

Help me to walk so close to Thee,

That those who know me best can see,

I live as godly as I pray,

And Christ is real from day to day.

I see some once a day or year,

To them I blameless might appear,

‘Tis easy to be kind and sweet,

To people who we seldom meet.

But in my home are those who see,

Too many times the worst of me.

My hymns of praise were best unsung,

If I could not control my tongue.

When I am vexed and sorely tried,

And my impatience cannot hide.

May no one stumble over me,

Because Thy love they failed to see.

But give me LORD, a life that sings,

And victory over little things.

Give me Thy calm for every fear,

Thy peace for every fallen tear.

Make mine, O LORD, through calm & strife,

A gracious and unselfish life.

Help me with those who know me best,

For Jesus’ sake to stand the test.

Free-will Salvation…

Who has the free-will?

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.”

John 1:12,13

“Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.”

Philippians 2:12,13

“For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.”

Romans 9:15,16

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.”

Ephesians 1:3-12

“And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?”

Daniel 4:35

“Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus? Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour? What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory, Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.”

Romans 9:20-25

Who, according to Scripture, has free-will in salvation?

JEHOVAH… The Mighty God. Praise the LORD!

“The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.”
Proverbs 19:11

I have been reading an interesting biography about George Frederic Handel and today as I read the last two chapters something jumped out at me. It is a lesson on what can happen if we are unwilling to forgive the small, or smaller than small, personal offences of others…

Handel’s friend, Sir Hans Sloane, was a thrifty man and a collector of priceless books. Handel loved him and they were very good friends. However, one day, in a thoughtless moment in the midst of conversation, Handel sat a buttered muffin on the cover of one of Sir Hans’ treasured books, which he held in his hand. After a painful silence ensued Handel asked forgiveness for his thoughtless action… Sir Hans refused to accept the apology and the friendship ended, never to be renewed. The buttered muffin had terminated the welcome that Handel had always before possessed.

Now, before we start shaking our heads in disgust for Sir Hans’ action, let us examine ourselves. How many times have we allowed a personal offense come between a family member and us or a friend and ourselves? The Lord Jesus Christ condemned such hardness of hearts, such selfishness, self-centeredness, & love of self! He warned us of what would happen if we continued in our stubbornness to hold bitterness in our hearts and refuse to forgive.

Let us forgive and forget the buttered muffins of others…
“But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
Matthew 6:15

On The Power of Good & Evil

“We know not half the power of good or ill

Our daily lives posses o’re one another;

A careless word may help a soul to kill,

or by one look we may redeem our bother.

Tis not the great things that we do or say.

But idle words forgot as soon as spoken

and little thoughtless deeds of every day

Are stumbling blocks on which the weak are broken.”

“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

James 3:6,13-18

“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

Colossians 3:17

Proverbs 31 Woman…

As the rubies red are hard to find,
So is a woman virtuous and kind.

Her husband’s heart is filled with trust,
He hunts not treasures as most men dost.

No evil will this woman do,
But only good to him will shew.

Flax and wool she searcheth out,
Hands willingly work without a pout.

From far like ships she bringeth food,
To prepare at night for her households good.

She sought, considered and bought a field,
By the fruit of her hands her vineyard will yield.

By the work she doeth all the day long,
Are her loins girt about and her arms made strong.

Her merchandise is good in her sight,
Her candle goeth not out by night.

Of the spindle and distaff her hands take hold,
Never laying in her lap her hands do fold.

To the poor and needy her hands do spread,
She does not begrudge to give them bread.

In winter she doth not the wind or snow loathe,
For in scarlet doth she her whole household clothe.

Coverings of tapestry upon her are laid,
Of silk and purple her wardrobe is made.

Amidst the elders her husband is known,
When to a seat among them he’s shown.

She maketh and selleth of her fine linen,
And to the merchants her girdles are given.

Strength and honour are her clothing of choice,
In the time to come she shall rejoice.

With not but wisdom her mouth is strung,
The law of kindness is in her tongue.

With idleness is she never fed,
But toils hard for her daily bread.

To call her blessed her children arise,
Her husband praiseth her likewise.

Many daughters have done well,
But thou dost all of them excel!

Vain is her beauty, deceitful her  favour,
But who feareth the LORD, Praise will she savour.

Reward for the fruit of her hand ye shall give,
Her own works shall praise her as long as she live.

My Spirit Doth Rejoice!

How did my heart rejoice to hear
My friends devoutly say,
“In Zion let us all appear,
And keep the solemn day!”

I love her gates, I love the road;
The church, adorned with grace,
Stands like a palace built for God,
To show His milder face.

Up to her courts with joys unknown
The holy tribes repair;
The Son of David holds His throne,
And sits in judgment there.

He hears our praises and complaints;
And while His awful voice
Divides the sinners from the saints,
We tremble and rejoice.

Peace be within this sacred place,
And joy a constant guest!
With holy gifts and heav’nly grace
Be her attendants blest!

My soul shall pray for Zion still,
While life or breath remains;
There my best friends, my kindred dwell,
There God my Savior reigns.
