"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up"
Similar to vaunting ones self, puffed up is rather the attitude behind the actions. Being filled with high thoughts of ones self... the common word for puffed up would be proud. Pride is the root behind a lot of uncharitable thoughts and deeds. Being puffed up will keep one from admitting faults, honoring others and seeking forgiveness.
Love finds it easy to apologize, easy to praise others, to change conduct, etc. Love gets down beneath others and has a meek and quiet spirit. Love controls the thoughts of the heart and head to root out the pride and replace it with humility.
This one is not easy... but if we can master our pride, put it down and exalt humility in our lives, the love that flows from us will be untainted and unlimited. We must remember that even if it appears that we are humble in our actions, the LORD sees and tries the heart. We must be careful! Take every thought captive in obedience to Christ! He humbled Himself to the death of the cross and came in the form of a servant... What are we?! Just air-blown clay... Let us humble ourselves before Him and before our brethren to serve them with charity today.
