Vaunteth Not Itself

"Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself,"

Vaunteth is not a word that we commonly use these days, but it describes a deficiency in character that is very common in today's world that centers itself on self love and promotion (rather than love of others)...

~It is to speak vaingloriously of one's self, to brag about one's own accomplishments or worth. It is to boast and put yourself forward.

We as Christians are to make our boast in the LORD, not ourselves. (Psalm 34:2)

If we love as we ought, we will seek to praise others and talk about their accomplishments and abilities. We should promote others, not ourselves. We should, as Jesus taught, take the lowest position instead of presuming the highest. (Luke 14:7-11)

Don't talk about yourself! Ask others about themselves...
Don't volunteer information about your achievements, praise someone else for theirs...

Love will truly desire to put others up and forward and leave off the arrogant assertion of it's own presumed superiority of ability or prowess.

Love will get down.
